The maps on the permit that Mcoal submitted with their permit application contained a particular 40 acres. To wit:
The South East quarter of the North East quarter of Section 36, Township 11 South, Range 1 East in Blount County. (And yes, you can actually find this on a topo map).
However, in Mcoal’s legal notices in the Blount Countian during June (ending July 1) did not include this 40 acre plot. In an apparent attempt to correct this error the company ran another legal notice in the Blount Countian on August 5 that included the missing 40 acres. One of our legal notice readers happened to catch it. When contacted, ASMC informed us that MCoal could either use the original legal notice and withdraw the 40 acres from the permit, or they could include the 40 acres and extend the public comment period. We understand that Mcoal has chosen to subtract the 40 acres from the permit so they can proceed. Watch those legal notices!
